Mission Statement: Training graduates to become outstanding teachers driven by: pupil progress, personalisation and partnership
Welcome from the Director, Angela Barnes
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our website. If you have a passion for learning and feel inspired to lead the next generation of children to fulfil their potential, then ours is the course for you. Our mission at the South Coast SCITT Learning Community is to enable and empower Trainee teachers to become outstanding, learning-centred teachers.
At South Coast, theory and practice is truly integrated in an exciting learning experience, where Trainees observe and support outstanding teachers whilst also developing their understanding of educational theory. Our ‘SCITT/Training School Experience’ gives our trainees the unique opportunity to work alongside children in all year groups of the Primary School from day 1 of the programme, giving them a head start to their training in a practical ‘hands-on’ approach and within an inspirational learning environment.
Learning to teach at South Coast SCITT gives trainees the opportunity to:
- specialise in a preferred age range – Early Years (3 – 7 yrs) or General Primary (5 – 11 yrs)
- gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
- gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- gain up to 60 credits towards a Masters Qualification
- benefit from fantastic career prospects
'A brilliant course - one of the best experiences of my life - I didn’t want it to end!' (South Coast SCITT Trainee, 2012)

In the Good Teacher Training Guide (2013), South Coast was rated as the joint second Provider nationally for trainee satisfaction ratings.
